1947 Willys CJ-2A

Unlike most CJ-2As still in use today, mine is mostly stock, having the original body, frame, engine, and driveline. It was purchased in the early 1950’s by my Grandfather, who sold it to me in 1988. At that time the engine was seized, the brakes inoperative, glass broken, and so on. I had repairs made to the engine and brakes and drove the Jeep for a couple of years. I gave it a complete going-over, mechanically, in the spring of 1996, also dealing with some cosmetic problems.

Today, I use my Jeep for hunting, fishing, hauling firewood, and for short trips to town. It performs reliably and everything works (mostly). It is not a highway vehicle and I trailer it on long trips. I don’t drive it in the winter to protect it from salt damage.

I plan to add a soft top of some kind over the next couple of years. I may also replace the slightly oversize tires with stock ones, as the turning radius suffers with the larger tires.
